The marchers will take non-violent action to claim rights to lands that their families have worked and lived on for generations. When land is stolen for its commercial resources people without political or financial power lose their homes, their livelihoods and their communities.

In 2007 there was a similar 350km march to Delhi by 25,000 tribal and landless people demanding the rights to their land. The government’s response was promising and some positive policies have been put in place. However, progress is very slow. To remind the government of the urgency, Ekta Parishad has started on a year-long tour of India, visiting displaced communities and gathering support for the March for Justice in October 2012.
